Barn Door Shelf

Hey crafty crafters!  It's Melinda from over at Under My Umbrella.  It's good to be back crafting with the girls of WYLTC.  I found something new about my crafting identity this week....I'm an emotional crafter.  Yep, that's right.  Let me explain.  Late last week my grandfather passed away.  He was an amazing grandfather.  You know the type that carries jelly beans and lemon balls in the trunk of his car for grandkids.  He was always happy, had the most contagious laugh and would always hug and then wink at you making you feel loved and special.  He will be missed.  The day he died my inspiration for my WYLTC project struck and I knew I wanted to make something in memory of my grandfather and it just happens to go with the theme of "shelves".

Hey now!  Don't judge...it does have a shelf :)   I had this seriously old pallet sitting in my garage waiting to go to the dump.   So old...it was cracking and falling apart.  I pulled it apart, then placed the wood and nailed it together.

It did have it's challenges.  The wood was splitting and cracking off but hammering was therapeutic.  Creating makes a person feel good.  Hopefully you have all experienced that feeling!

My friend came over yesterday and said, "Is that what you did with all that garbage wood on your driveway the other day.  I love it."  *Smile*  I love it too.

I love that this shelf will forever remind me of my grandfather.  I've placed it so when I walk in my door it's the first thing I see.

Emotional crafting is healthy.  What will you create today?

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. The shelf you make is really awesome. I have some extra pallets laying around my house, I would love to make one of those, I am not very crafty though, would you mind doing a step by step through this one for me?
