4th Of July Banner Crafty Sisters

Happy 4th of July!
Candace and I hope you are having a wonderful holiday
and we're excited to share our cute little wood Patriotic banner with you!

It's pretty simple~we just made elongated pennants approximately 4 x 10 inches.
We cut them from 1/8" MDF, it's perfect for banners, not too heavy, not too thick, and makes them
a whole lot sturdier to store and hang.

What made these pennants fun was that we cut out a separate piece to layer on the top.
Scallop, round and triangle edges add a bit of pop and depth to each pennant.

I find that my banners all end up looking very similar though, I can resist to bejewel them
for a little pop!  I guess it's okay to go along with today's "sparklers" right?!

{One Board} Flag from Craft Goodies

Hey there everyone! 

Happy Birthday to America wishes coming at you from Wendy at Craft Goodies.

I have a little confession to make. I didn't make a project this month...

 

Here's the deal. I was a bit stumped by the theme for this month. I already have a flag piece that I love. I tossed around a few more ideas but kept coming back to my original flag. So why try and re-do something that I already smile at every time I see it hanging on my front door?

I couldn't.

Instead I decided to share the original tutorial for my Easy {One Board} Flag.

I hope you enjoy it--

 

You need a 1x4x6 and some scrap cardboard.

A little bit of craft wire and some paint. That's it.

Cut the 1x4 into 4 pieces.

1 Header @ 12 inches long

2 small stripes @ 15 inches long each

1 long stripe @ 16.5 inches long

 

Paint the boards, header = blue,

small stripes = red,

long stripe = white

 

Drill holes into the stripes so they can be wired together.

 4 in the white stripe, one in each corner about half an inch in. 

2 in each of the red stripes, in the corners that match up with the holes drilled into the white stripe.

 

 

Thread a piece of wire through the holes, twist together, and then give a little curl to the ends.

 

 

Line up the header across the top of the stripe pieces.

Drill 3 holes along the bottom of the header and coordinating holes into the top center of each stripe.

Wire the header to the stripes.

Add two more holes across the top of the header to create a wire hanger. Wire pieces together.

 

Make your stars next.

Draw them out onto the cardboard then cut them out.

 

Separate the cardboard layers to create some texture.

Paint the stars, distress the edges if you'd like.

Glue the stars onto your flag.

 

 

Almost done!

 Add a few embellishments like ribbon, buttons, berries, or glitter.

 

(You could add some lettering like "Stars & Stripes", "Old Glory", "Bless the "USA" etc.)

Find a spot to display your work, and enjoy!

Flag inspired USA- Sassy Sanctuary

Hello everyone!  Krystal from Sassy Sanctuary here.  I'm so excited to be here for another round of Wood You Like to Craft!  Its seems like life this year has been so crazy busy that I just don't find the time to craft like I use to.  (I'm sure it has nothing to do with the baby and now having 3 kids) So I just love having the WYLTC gals give me that push to create something.  Because each time I do I remember why I love crafting!!

4th of July is my very favorite holiday.  So I love all things red, white, and blue!  And my project this month was SO super simple.  All I did was get some U-S-A letters from the craft store and add scrapbook paper to them and a star.  Simple.

But they are SO cute!  Sometimes the simplest projects are the most rewarding.

Keeping with the "flag" theme I did the U in a blue, and the S and A in a red and white stripe.  (OK... its a chevron.  But if you think about a waving flag the stripes would kinda look like a chevron pattern.... right?  right?)

And I decided not to add 50 stars.  One was going to have to do. (But its a sparkly one so that makes up for it!)

But I still think that anyone looking at it would get the idea that its supposed to be a USA flag.  ;)

But the BEST part about my USA is that it made me finally put my mantle display together!

I have been a total slacker at changing out my mantle display and it was definitely time to take the Easter bunnies down!  I am loving this vignette!  Its my favorite one I've done for awhile.

Of course the star of the show is the U-S-A...

 but I also make a pinwheel banner out of scrapbook paper...

And added my fire crackers from a few years back with some mason jars and greenery.

I'm just loving the whole thing.

Cabinet Door Flag by Under My Umbrella

Hey all :)  It's Melinda from Under My Umbrella.  I love the 4th of July and am happy to start this party with a flag theme.  I love our country, the freedoms we enjoy, the people who got us here and the people who are fighting to keep it this way.  I'm the type of person who gets chills when the National Anthem is played.  My favorite part is....

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.

Our good old flag!!!  Let's get started and check out my not so traditional flag...

As I said before I love the 4th of July and have a lot of flag crafts around my house.  I wanted to do something slightly different and came up this cabinet door burlap flag.

It was easy to make but took some time.  My good friend had a pipe break in her house resulting in a flood.  She had to replace her cabinets and gave me all of the water damaged ones to share with my crafty friends.  I sanded down one and painted it.

Next I cut my burlap.  Burlap can be tricky to cut straight.  If you pull one string out you have a guide of how to cut it straight.  I cut out strips and a square for my flag.

 I then used mod podge to keep everything in place.  It did a great job and actually keeps the burlap from fraying.  For the stars I grabbed a good old dollar store book I had around and cut the shapes from the pages.  Easy and cute!

I hope everyone has some fun plans for the 4th!  Be safe and I can't wait to see what the other girls of WYLTC come up with.  I love to copy their projects for my home :)

Crafty Sisters - Simple Chalkboard

Hello from Crafty Sisters!  We are so excited about working with chalkboards again!

There are so many great ideas of how to use them.  We are happy to have another excuse to play around with them for WYLTC!

We were inspired by Ballard Designs again!

They have some fun and sophisticated chalkboard frames.

They are so simple and classy~and with all the end of school craziness going on~simple sounded perfect!

We first picked up a simple black picture frame from Hobby Lobby.

The guys down at Home Depot were so great to cut our board for us!  Did you know they carry Chalk Board all ready to cut to size?!!  No worries about painting it, it's just good to go!

Plus I love seeing that big saw in action~I don't think we're the only girls with saw envy....:)

Simply tack the chalk board in place with some silicon adhesive or nails.

             

It's that easy, looks that great and it's a wonderful blank canvas for all the great chalkboard prints

that are so popular right now!

Herb Garden with Chalkboard Labels- Sassy Sanctuary

Hello everyone!

Its so great to be back with another round of WYLTC!  But I have to admit, this month's theme kinda threw me.  You see, I have a large chalkboard on my broom cabinet in my kitchen, and I just recently finished a white board project. So another chalkboard wasn't really on my list.  So I figured the next best thing would be to do some kind of chalkboard label.  I have been wanting to do a window herb garden FOREVER, so that was it! But then I started browsing Pinterest and fell in love with all the great "faux chalkboard" graphics and printables that are so popular right now.  And ended up with faux chalkboard labels.  Hope that still counts!

Anyway, here is how it turned out.

I totally LOVE it!  Its my new favorite craft of all time.  And if it hadn't been for the chalkboard inspiration I doubt it would have ended up half as cute!

And it was also SUPER easy!

I found the unfinished crate at Joann's,  Its technically a CD rack, but turned on its back.

I painted it blue and then found some 3" wood tiles also at Joann's.  I modge podged the chalkboard print to those. (If you print using a laser printer your prints won't bleed, I let Office Max do my laser printing.)

Then hot glued the labels to the crate, added some potted herbs.  And done.

And I'm even going to share my chalkboard label if anyone wants to use them!

And it really does look cute in my window!

Now if I can just keep them alive.....

Pantry Chalkboard from Craft Goodies!

It's Wood You Like to Craft? time again and this month I got to choose the theme. Oh! What's a girl to do? So many projects on the to-do list...   I have been dying to get a bit more organized in my kitchen, particularly in  my pantry so {selfishly} I opted for CHALKBOARD PAINT PROJECTS for May's theme.   I love chalkboard paint, my girls LOVE chalkboard paint, and as I searched for the perfect idea I found that lots of people like chalkboard paint too! My project list only grew as I kept searching.  But, in the end I found my inspiration and here's what I came up with...

  

I LOVE it! I adore clocks of all shapes and sizes and adding one to this fun little chalkboard just makes my heart smile.

I started with the intention of building a simple frame and then opened up the closet and found one there, the perfect size, just waiting to be used. So I swapped out the glass for a thin piece of MDF cut to fit the frame.

I used my chalkboard paint on the MDF--probably 4 layers, maybe 5. {Not sure, I was catching up on Dance Moms while I worked...}   Once that was done and drying I turned to the frame. Some white paint there and a bit of sandpaper gave it the look I wanted, and then I re-assembled my frame/chalkboard.

  On to the clock...I found this little gem at Goodwill, only $2! It was bright red and said "Happy Holidays!". The cashier thought I was crazy for buying it, you should have seen the look she gave me. But it was the perfect size and had all the hardware.

I pulled the hardware off, painted it black and then white, and then sanded it to match the frame. I covered up the holiday greeting with some scrapbook paper, added a few numbers, and then put it all back together again.

 

I added a few small wooden blocks to the frame to help support the clock and then glued it onto the top of the frame. **Be sure to set the clock high enough that you can still get to the battery compartment**

  And last, I tied a piece of ribbon around the frame and added a few small clothespins to hold pictures, notes, recipes, etc.

Isn't it just SO cute! Right now, it's still in the "LOOK! Mom put a chalkboard on the pantry for us to color on" stage so grocery/to-do lists might have to wait a few more days. But, once the novelty wears off I will be one step closer to my organized goal.   I am thrilled with my project and cannot wait to see what the other WYLTC gals have come up with.
