Halloween Ghost by Under My Umbrella

 Happy Halloween from Under My Umbrella!  I love Halloween and so do my kids!  They have been begging to pull out the decoration stuff since August.   August is a little early for me but at the beginning of this month when I picked the pumpkins out of my garden...I'm decided I'm ready to start celebrating.  I wasn't really sure what to name this little gem...a wreath?  A round?  A ghost wreath round?

I have a bunch of these rounds in my garage from when Wendy (over at craft goodies) moved.  They were throwing them out and my husband decided they could be used.  Yes, he does that a lot.  He will find something free and decide we must make use of it.  Well the rounds have now been sitting there years with no use.  Just taking up space.   I grabbed one and cut out a cute little ghost.




 I painted the round and ghost white and then painted a chevron pattern in the background.  Yes, I'm addicted to the chevron pattern :)   I grabbed some coffee filters and made use of that outside space by forming a wreath of sorts.  The ghost needed a bow and cute burlap banner to make her just adorable.  It's amazing what some coffee filters and hot glue can do!  Cute, easy and cheap.

The boys of the family feel we need to have some spiders crawling around on it.  We're off to the dollar store to grab some spider rings to creep up my cute project.  Thanks to the girls over at Crafty Sisters for motivating me to get my Halloween on :)

Days 'til Halloween Board from Craft Goodies!

Holy Moly! I just about missed the entire day.

I had my project ready days ago but long morning appointments and a missing camera didn't help me to get it up and posted.

I LOVE this project. Here let me show you...

 

Isn't it fun?

In all honesty, I stumbled across a similar project last year on pinterest--it only took a year to bring it to life OH! but it was worth it. I would credit the designer but it was only pinned as a google picture, so if you know who please tell!

It was pretty easy to put together.

I started with a bunch of scrap wood cut to different lengths, laid them out in a random pattern, and then glued/nailed them onto 2 1x2 that are about 5 feet tall. {picture top right}

 

From there I painted the base an off white and then gave it a good sanding once it was dry.

I free handed the letters using black, orange, and gray paints. You could use a word document to type the words and then trace them onto the board or even use vinyl. {middle picture}

 

I cut small rectangles from 1/4 inch MDF, drilled a hole in the top center, paper covered them, and then added numbers on both sides for the countdown pieces. I drilled two small screws into the sign base. And tied ribbons through the holes in the tiles to hang them. {bottom right picture}

 

From there I added a few extras...the crow and spider, and the paper pennant banner across the top.

Sheer Halloween happiness going on here!

 

The excitement just builds as we change out the numbers each day, we can't wait for Halloween!!!

Spiders- Sassy Sanctuary

Hello Wood You Like to Craft readers!  This is Krystal form Sassy Sanctuary sharing the easiest little Halloween craft today.  Cute little spiders!!!

They are kinda silly but sure look cute mixed in with your Halloween display. 

And the best part is they were seriously so quick and easy.  I made these start to finish (including the shopping trip) during one kindergarten school day.

All you need is a couple of wooden balls. (these were labeled "doll heads" at Micheals)
wire
black paint
rhinestones for eyes
a hot glue gun
and a drill.

then you drill eight little holes into the sides of the wood balls (4 on each side), paint it black, add wire legs (hot glue into place), and stick on the eyes.  So easy!

And because they were SO easy, I think this might just be my shortest blog post ever!  But what else can I say, go make some spiders for your display this afternoon!  :)

Halloween Beware Sign Crafty Sisters

Hello from Crafty Sisters! 
Today we are sharing a fun "BEWARE" sign with you!
I don't think that we get any more excited about any holiday as much as we do Halloween!
I started pulling all of my Halloween stuff out this weekend finally to decorate and it just makes
me giddy getting it out!

We wanted to share a quick, easy and very budget friendly Halloween decoration this month.
Candace and I made a version of this sign about 6 years ago and my little sign has taken a beating over the years so I needed to update it!

All you'll need is:
6 rectangles with dog eared corners about 3" x 3.5".  I used my scraps of 3/4" thick MDF and drilled a little hole at the top of each piece.
6 coordinating pieces of scrap book paper (again great use of leftover scraps) 3' x 3.5".
BEWARE letters cut from your Cricut or you can use chipboard letters~make sure they fit on the rectangle!
Black fencing wire
Various beads
Branches about 4 feet in length
Black spray paint
Silver spray glitter
Ribbon or Raffia

I gathered the branches from my Sycamore tree (which I love to hate), it dumps branches in a downpour when ever the wind comes around.  I wrapped them together with the heavy duty wire (you can find this at Home Depot in the Fencing Department for under $5 for the huge roll!  Then just spray paint and glitter away!

While you wait for that to dry give your little blocks a quick coat of paint and glue your papers and letters into place.  I have a love affair with glitter...I can't seem to make any project without adding some!

Cut wire in 12" section and thread the beads on after you've threaded it through the blocks.

Hobby Lobby has a lot of their beads on sale this week 50% off!

Once you've got your beads in place you can secure the wires to the bundled branches.

You can add some raffia and pretty ribbon for an extra pop!

Sometimes raffia is a bit straight for me~did you know you can curl it?  If you have an old curling iron~this is my mini from highschool~yes, it completely dates me~it works perfect for curling raffia!

The fencing wire is nice and thick so you can position the hanging blocks just right.

There ya go~a quick, easy and inexpensive Halloween sign to greet your visitors!

Recipe & Tablet Stands from Craft Goodies!

Hello to you all!

It's Wendy from Craft Goodies here to wrap up this week of kitchen inspiration. So, I have a confession. I love posting last. It gives me more time to really check out the other projects and as always, add a few things to my "need to make" list. While that list keeps growing, I did manage to get one thing off of it with this month's theme...

{The tablet went missing right at picture time so you get my phone! Too many little helpers in this kitchen...}

 I love to cook. And more and more I find myself pulling recipes from online sources, there are so many good ones out there! It's so easy to pull something up on my tablet and not have to dig through my cookbooks. The problem is that my tablet is then very much in danger of becoming part of the recipe! I needed somewhere to put it where it would be safe from flying flour but I could still read the directions, a tablet stand was definitely needed!

 

I had every intention of cutting a base board out but happened to be in Hobby Lobby a few weeks back and found this little cutie. Perfect size, already painted to match my kitchen, and it was half off!

 (It's cut from 1/4 inch MDF if you wanted to cut your own)

 

To make the shelf, I cut a piece from a square dowel--just wider than my tablet, and then a thin strip of MDF just taller than the dowel to make a little "lip" to hold the tablet in place...

 

...glued them together (use wood glue!), gave it a few coats of gray paint...

 

 

...and then glued it into place.

 

The stand on back is made from 2 pieces of 1x2 hinged together and then glued to the back of the base board. And done! So cute, and just what I needed!

 

The bonus was while I was in Hobby Lobby I found the cute clip board stand too! Perfect for the paper recipes that I still use, granted it was HOT PINK {and oh so cute, could I get away with a hot pink kitchen?} but that was easily fixed with a screwdriver and a can of spray paint.

 

So, thank you Krystal for a fun and needed theme, this little corner of my kitchen is  now so much cuter and user friendly. My tablet will live a much happier and cleaner life!

Kitchen Cord Organizer by Under My Umbrella

Wow!  It's been one of those days.  It's Melinda from over at Under My Umbrella.  I'm excited to be up and posting again on WYLTC but I should have been posting about 9 hours ago.  I guess that's when you just say "Better late than never!".  I had a few ideas for projects for this month's kitchen theme.  None of them went as planned.  Boo!  The positive side of failed projects is I finally finished one that has been on my "to do" list for a while.   Our kitchen counter area seems to be charger station central.  We have cords for iPhones, iPads, iPods and DS games systems everywhere. I've seen lots of those cool cord charger organizers on pinterest and decided to make one up so I could hide the big mess of cords.

Goodness!  I love organization.  It just makes you feel good.  This project may look familiar... or not.  I made this for a project way back when for WYLTC.

A few months ago I took the box out of my kitchen and was trying to figure out what to do with it.  This project is perfect for it my cord organizer.  Basically I took some old molding, nailed it together to form a box and spray painted it.  For it to become my organizer I had to make a minor change.  I needed some place for the cords to come up to the top.  I used my saw to make 5 slits in the box. 

Turn it over on it's side and BAM!  Cord organizer :)  It needed a little more pizazz.  I grabbed some paper cut it in strips and used some mod podge to apply it to the wood.

It was really easy and changed the look of the project.  So there we have it.  My counter went from something like this...

It's called happiness!  I feel so grateful to be crafting with the wonderful ladies of WYLTC.  They really are a great bunch of people.  Thanks for putting up with my tardiness.  Craft up something wonderful and share it with us.  I love seeing what everyone is up to :)

Kitchen EAT Letters-Crafty Sisters

Hello from Crafty Sisters!
We loved Krystal's Kitchen theme this month and we have a fun set of
EAT letters that are perfect for decorating in your kitchens.

We thought it would be fun to show 3 separate sets that we've put together from the
same set of letters that we cut from 3/4" MDF.
You can also find unfinished letters to use in your local hobby store but if you are adventurous enough to try cutting out your own check out www.dafont.com for a huge selection of fun fonts you can use.

All you will need are wood letters, paint, Mod Podge, scrap booking paper and your embellishments.

With these sets we used a fork we got at the thrift store and flattened it with a rubber mallet to create a sign holder that says Bon Appetit!  We glued it on with some E6000 which works great gluing metal.

 There are so many cute little embellishments you can use~by the way Hobby Lobby has a great sale this week on all sorts of little embellishments 50% off!

Here is another set we did with neutral black and white papers.

It's always amazing to me how you can personalize a set of letters to make them your own!

This watermelon inspired set were some I put together for a client and I cut out a separate little watermelon to go with them.  They turned out so fun!
